Celebrities for Solidarity for the Indigent and the Disadvantaged
José Carreras, tenor singer, was present at the regatta for solidarity held in Palma de Mallorca organized by boatyard Bavaria Yatchs and the headquarters of the José Carreras Foundation in Germany. It was one week of open sail during which sixty sailors declared their support to fund for the José Carreras Foundation.
Other celebrities, such as La Mari de Chambao, Silvia Abascal, Antonio Orozco and other artists have created a foundation called "Voices". With the donations, they personally visit the most disadvantaged areas of the poorest countries and teach courses. Ana Torroja's solo recorded some songs from her latest album with the students of the School of Interpretation, which was created by the foundation.
Through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, actress Angelina Jolie made a donation to the victims of recent conflicted areas, and is in turn fulfilling her commitment as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Agency for Refugees (UNHCR).
Furthermore, French soccer player Zinedine Zidane asserted that she will destine the received funds from the Qatar World Cup to her foundation. The popular supermodel Naomi Campbell supports a charity runway show called “Fashion for Relief”. The fundraised funds will be destined to Japan’s earthquake victims.
The Spanish Association against Cancer launched the "a lot to live for" fundraiser. Many familiar faces were seen in this show of solidarity: Laura Valenzuela, Alejandra Jimenez and Veronica Mengod. There are also common events organized by the Association.
The Lebanese soloist Nayla Tahan along with the Fenissia Cultural Association held a recital to protest against landmines. The funds raised will be destined to the victims. Moreover, the Canadian ex-Hockey player Eric Lindros is part of the The Giving Back Fund list of celebrities that act for solidarity.
The musician “Herb” Alpert donated US$ 13 million to help eradicate illiteracy, followed by singer Barbra Streisand, who donated US$ 11 million to combat AIDS. Paul Newman gave US$ 10 million to Kenyon College, while his colleague Mel Gibson gave US$ 9.9 million to the Church of the Holy Family in Malibu, California.
On the other hand, Julia Roberts designed a dress for an international couturier, whose raised funds shall be destined to the Products RED institution organized by Bono from U2, which aims to combat AIDS in Africa.
Among the athletes that act for solidarity the golf player, Tigre Woods, excels by sponsoring golf youth teams. Swiss tennis player, Roger Federer, supports the most fragile and undernourished children in South Africa.
