De cada mil desposadas a las que se les ha realizado una mamografía en España, exclusivamente a cuatro se les descubrió cáncer de mama, ha anunciado la Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (AECC). Esta institución hace una llamada a las mujeres españolas, en edad de peligro, para que cooperen en la campaña para la averiguación adelantada de este tipo de cáncer, lanzada bajo el lema “En una mamografía se ve la vida.
Las hembras ceñidas entre los 45 y los 70 años deben practicarse mamografías cada dos años, aunque no se manifiesten los síntomas. El cáncer de mama es el tipo de carcinoma más habitual y que se cobra mayor número de defunciones en España. Científicos del Instituto de Investigación del Cáncer de Sutton (Reino Unido) han pillado un nuevo gen. Se trata del BRIP1, que alterado, dobla el peligro en todas las mujeres con probabilidades de sufrir cáncer de mama. Los indagadores británicos han divulgado estas resultados en la revista “Nature Genetics”. Este nuevo gen causa más de un 50 por ciento de probabilidades de desplegar la dolencia.
En EEUU la noticia del descubrimiento de sendos cánceres de mama en las esposas del presidente Ford y del vicepresidente Rockefeller, en 1975, propició un aumento de esta enfermedad, porque las mujeres alarmadas acudieron a realizarse mamografías y así se detectaron cánceres que de otra forma no se habrían descubierto. Las mujeres quedaron más sensibilizadas por la noticia que por las campañas publicitarias sobre la detección precoz del cáncer.

Of each thousand newlyweds in Spain to whom a mammography has been made, exclusively in four a breast cancer was discovered, has announced the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). This institution makes a call to the Spanish women, in age of danger, so that they cooperate in the campaign for the advanced inquiry of this type of cancer, sent under the motto “In a mammography the life can be seen”.

Scientists of the Institute of Cancer Research of Sutton (United Kingdom) have found a new gene. The British investigators have disclosed these results in the magazine “Nature Genetics”. This new gene causes more than 50 percent of probabilities of unfolding the ailment.
In the U.S.A. the news of the discovery of individual cancers of breast in the wives of president Ford and vice-president Rockefeller, in 1975, caused an increase of this disease, because the alarmed women went for mammographies and thus cancers were detected that of another form would not have been discovered.
