Un comité de la Universidad de Harvard, encargado de analizar los planes de estudios de los pregraduados, acaba de refrendar un informe en el que requiere implantar una asignatura obligatoria de religión. El estudio determina que la educación liberal que se imparte en Harvard, a la que califica de "profundamente secular", no prepara debidamente a los estudiantes.
La asignatura abarcará materias de política internacional, diálogo entre religión y ciencia, y religión como creencia personal. Según Louis Menand, profesor de Harvard y codirector de la comisión, "hace treinta años, cuando se revisó por última vez el plan de estudios, la gente nos habría dicho que la religión no era algo que debiera conocer todo el mundo. Hoy, muy pocos discutirían que es extremadamente importante en la vida moderna", afirmó en "The Wall Street Journal".
La Universidad de Harvard se fundó en 1636. En el escudo aparece la palabra "Veritas", de la que se dice que es una forma abreviada del lema o el emblema familiar.
Es España, sin embargo, se rechaza la asignatura de la religión y se reemplaza por la Educación para la Ciudadanía. El Foro Español de la Familia ha capitaneado la discrepancia hacia esta asignatura y amparará a los padres para ejercitar el derecho de objeción de conciencia e impedir que sus hijos estudien esta materia. El vicepresidente del Foro, Benigno Blanco, solicitó a las autoridades educativas que “sean sensibles ante la realidad de que millones de familias estén en contra de la Educación para la Ciudadanía” e invocó el artículo 27,3 de la Constitución que asevera: “Los poderes públicos garantizan el derecho que asiste a los padres para que sus hijos reciban la formación religiosa y moral que esté de acuerdo con sus propias convicciones”.

The study determines that the liberal education imparted at Harvard, rated as “deeply secular”, does not properly prepare the students.The subject will include topics like international policy, dialogue between religion and science and religion as a personal belief. According to Louis Menand, professor of Harvard and co-director of the commission, “for thirty years, when the curriculum was last reviewed, people would have said to us that religion was not something that had to know everybody. Today, very few would discuss that it is extremely important in the modern life”, as affirmed in “The Wall Street Journal”.
The Harvard University was founded in 1636. In its shield appears the word “Veritas”, of which it is said that it is a brief form of the motto or of the familiar emblem.Nevertheless, the subject of religion is rejected in Spain, replaced by the subject of Citizenship Education. The Spanish Family Forum has commanded the discrepancy towards this subject and will protect the parents in their right to exercise the objection of conscience and to prevent their children to study this subject.The Forum Vice-President Benigno Blanco asked the educative authorities “to be sensible in view of the reality of which million families are against the Education for the Citizenship” and invoked article 27.3 of the Constitution that asserts: “The public powers guarantee the right that attends the parents to decide the religious and moral formation their children will receive according to their own convictions”.
