El universo se encuentra ante un oscurecimiento de la esperanza; una especie de agnosticismo práctico y de abulia religiosa, que hace que muchos mortales den la impresión de existir sin base espiritual y como beneficiarios que han dilapidado el legado recibido a lo largo de la historia; sus raíces cristianas.
Cada vez aumenta el peligro de vivir la propia fe en Jesús, en un contexto social y cultural en el que el proyecto de vida cristiano se ve, de continuo, despreciado y amenazado.
El secularismo, deslumbrado por las portentosas conquistas de un irresistible progreso científico, y fascinado por la más antigua, y siempre nueva, atracción de querer llegar a ser como Dios. Es realmente peligroso el fenómeno actual del secularismo; y no sólo afecta a los hombres sino que, en cierto modo, aqueja también a colectividades enteras.
No es raro que en este contexto se haya abierto un amplísimo campo para el avance del nihilismo en la filosofía; del relativismo en la moral; y del pragmatismo y hasta del hedonismo cínico, en la conformación de la existencia cotidiana. La cultura europea da la impresión de ser una apostasía silenciosa por parte del mortal autosuficiente que vegeta como si Dios no existiera.
La persona no puede vivir sin una esperanza en lo trascendental: su existencia castigada a la insignificancia, se volvería insufrible por lo que, en estos momentos, se agravan los signos de la falta de esperanza.
Se trata del mismo círculo vicioso del sediento que, extraviado en el desierto, descubre un espejismo que le induce a gastar sus exiguas energías corriendo, en vuelos de una esperanza falaz, hacia una meta que lo sumergirá en una auténtica desesperanza.
“Quizá no exista nada más trágico en la vida de los hombres que los engaños padecidos por la corrupción o por la falsificación de la esperanza, presentada con una perspectiva que no tiene como objeto a Dios, que sacia sin saciar”, afirmó Juan Pablo II.

The universe finds itself in presence of a darkening of hope; a kind of practical agnosticism and of religious apathy, that makes many mortals to give the impression of to exist without spiritual base and as beneficiaries that have squandered the legacy received throughout history: their Christian roots.
Every time increases the danger to live the own faith in Jesus, in a social and cultural context in which the Christian project of life is seen, continuously, despised and threatened.
The secularism, dazzled by the portentous conquests of an irresistible scientific progress, and fascinated by oldest, and always new, attraction to want to be like God. The present phenomenon of the secularism is really dangerous; and not only it does affect the men but, in certain way, does also affect the whole colectivities.
It is not rare that in this context, an amplest field for the advance of the nihilism in the philosophy has been opened; for the relativism in the moral; and for the pragmatism and also for the cynical hedonism, in the conformation of the daily existence. The European culture gives the impression to be a quiet apostasy on the part of the self-sufficient mortal who vegetates as if God did not exist.
The person cannot live without a hope in the transcendental dimension: his existence punished to the insignificance, would become insufferable, reason why, at the moment, the signs of the lack of hope worsen.
It points to the same vicious circle of the thirsty one who, misled in the desert, discovers a mirage that induces him to spend his exiguous energies running, in flights of a deceptive hope, towards a goal that will submerge him in an authentic hopelessness.
“Perhaps it does not exist nothing else tragic in the life of the men than the deceits suffered by the corruption or the falsification of the hope, presented with a perspective that does not have God as a goal, who satiates without satiating”, affirmed John Paul II.
